Learning objectives
The students understands the important concepts in the field of supramolecular chemistry, molecular nanotechnology, organic semiconductors, optics and surfaces & interfaces.
The student knows the applications of these molecules and materials. 
The student learns to apply these concepts to understand and judge scientific articles in these fields.
 
Content
-   Week 1-2: Supramolecular chemistry and self-assembly: Concepts: non-covalent interactions, host-guest chemistry, thermodynamics and kinetics of supramolecular systems, smart supramolecular materials.
-   Week 2-3: Functional nanoparticles: Concepts: principles of molecular nanotechnology, nanomedicine, artificial cells.
-   Week 3-4: Organic semiconductors: Concepts: principles organic semiconductors, charge transport, light emission, charge generation and applications organic semiconductors.
-   Week 4-5: Optics: Concepts: principles optics, interaction of light with materials, polarization of light, applications LCDs and solar concentrators.
-   Week 6-7: Surfaces and interfaces: Concepts: hydrophilic-hydrophobic surfaces, self-healing and responsive surfaces.

Het topics college behandelt de onderwerpen die relevant zijn voor de onderzoeksthema's binnen het MS&MC cluster. Hierbij wordt de kennis met betrekking tot moleculen en materialen verdiept en verbreed en worden toepassingen behandeld. Onderwerpen die aan bod komen zijn:eiwit engineering, supramoleculaire chemie, organische halfgeleiders, optische eigenschappen, oppervlaktes en interfaces.

The topics course discusses the topics that are relevant for research carried out in the MS&MC track. The knowledge about molecules and materials will be strengthen and its application will be discussed. Topics that will be discussed are: supramolecular chemistry, functional nanoparticles, organic semiconductors, optical materials and surfaces & interfaces.
