Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course the student can:
  1. Show insight in biochemical, localization and biomechanical aspects of stem cell maintenance and differentiation, based on most recent literature, and can relate the use of these factors for regenerative medicine.
  2. Show insight in the most recent development in cancer stem cell research, when relating these to the development of novel treatment strategies
Content
Stem cells play an important role in the development, maintenance and regeneration of biological tissues and hence form an attractive source of material for future clinical treatments, such as in regenerative medicine. This course is part of the course 8MM00 for students that took the introductory course for RMT (8R000). The students take part in the education on the niche and biomechanics and take part in the course when dealing with cancer stem cells. The students also write a mini-review article on cancer stem cells. This way the students specifically go into these subjects.
