Learning objectives
After passing the course, the student has insight in:
  1. Written communication and can apply this when writing a self-study and a report.
  2. Collaboration with other students and can apply this when together creating a joint groups product.
  3. Reflection on own work and the work of others in the form of peer review and processing intermediate feedback on a draft product.
  4. Making time schedules when planning to work towards a predefined deadline.
  5. Verbal presentations and applies this during meetings and group work.
  6. Ways of searching for and dealing with scientific information by means of individually looking up information and using this information for the final product. 

After passing the course, the student is able to:
  1. Apply and integrate the acquired knowledge of biomarkers and biosensors in the technological design of a biosensor and he can interpret and present the results.
Content
In this course you are going to design a hydrogel biosensor for the detection of biomarkers in skin. You will investigate biomarkers and biosensing principles, develop a biosensor system concept, you will develop a simulation of the molecular processes in the biosensor, and you will use the simulation to study the performance of the proposed biosensor.

Hydrogel biosensor voor de detectie van biomarkers in de huid In deze casus gaan we ons bezighouden met het ontwerpen van een hydrogel biosensor voor de detectie van biomarkers in de huid. We zullen mogelijke biomarkers en meetconcepten in kaart brengen, een biosensor-systeemconcept formuleren, en een simulatie uitvoeren om de beoogde onderliggende moleculaire processen kwantitatief te bestuderen.
