Learning objectives
After passing the course, the student has understanding of:
  1. Electronic configuration of atoms and simple molecules, and can predict properties based on this.
  2. The rules for correct Lewis structures with charges and resonance forms and can draw Lewis structures.
  3. The rules for resonance and aromaticity and can indicate the electron distribution in a molecule.
  4. The knowledge of conformations and can draw the most stable spatial form of the molecule.
  5. The CIP-rules and can name the configurations of stereocentres and double bonds.
  6. The rules for stability anions and can determine the order of acidity of different molecules.
  7. Thermodynamic definitions and agreements and can calculate thermodynamic quantities of a chemical reaction and mark the equilibrium constant.
  8. The mechanisms of some substitutions and additions, and can determine the reaction products.
Content
Electronic structure and covalent bonding; acids and bases; properties and structures of organic compounds; structure, stability and reactions of alkenes; isomers and stereochemistry; delocalized electrons, pKa; aromaticity; substitution reactions of carbonyl compounds.
