Learning objectives
Case histories will be presented to illustrate the contribuion of (advanced) techniques in laboratory medicine in the diagnostic process.
Content
Guest-speakers will focus on the following topics of laboratory medicine:
  • Endocrinology and thyroid gland
  • Principals en clinical applications of Tandem MS
  • Analytical techniques and clinical use of analysis of specific proteins
  • (Laboratory) diagnostics of auto-immune diseases
  • Hemocytometry and flowcytometry: principals and clinical applications
  • Novel diagnostic approaches for iron homeostasis
  • Molecular diagnostics: Measurement and clinical relevance of therapeutic antibodies against TNF-Alpha

    While the clinical chemistry lectures give an overview of principles and the role of laboratory medicine, this course goes in depth on selected subjects. Expert speakers from clinical laboratories present novel analysis techniques and their relevance in the diagnosis and monitoring of a disease. Technical aspects ofl aboratory techniques as well as pathofysiology will be illustrated by using patient cases.
