Learning objectives
After passing the course, the student is able to:
  1. Apply the knowledge of mechanical properties of cardiac- and vascular tissue, when explaining the (interaction between) function of the heart and vessels under normal and pathophysiological conditions.
  2. Apply and adjust mathematic lumped-parameter models for heart and circulation, in order to analyze cardiovascular function under normal and pathophysiological conditions.
  3. Interpret the electrocardiogram based on the knowledge of cardiac electric activity on cellular and organ level.
  4. Explain neurohumoral control mechanisms of heart and circulation, applying mathematical models of baroreflex and chemoreflex.

Fysiologie beschrijft de functies van en interacties tussen de verschillende bouwstenen (bijv. cel, weefsel, orgaan, orgaansysteem) en regelsystemen (bijv. baroreflex) van het menselijk lichaam. Modellen van fysiologische deelsystemen zijn van essentieel belang voor het begrip van (vaak complexe) pathofysiologische patronen en mechanismen. Als ontwerper en gebruiker van zulke modellen kan de medisch ingenieur een belangrijke bijdrage leveren aan patiëntenzorg.
